Unemployed man remanded for allegedly murdering colleague

Abraham Ayah, a 21-year-old unemployed man, has been remanded into Police custody by the District Court for allegedly murdering Ms Jennifer Tetteh, in violation of Section 46 of the Criminal Offences Act 1960 (ACT 29). The court presided over by Mr Derick Parden Eshun, remanded Ayah to reappear on March 13, 2024, after his plea was not taken. He faces charges of and abetment of crime.

According to Inspector Tetteh Nartey, prosecuting the case, the complainant, Madam Stella Matetsu, reported to the Afienya Police Station on February 25, 2024. She alleged that on February 2, 2024, a dispute arose between Ayah and the deceased at the yard of Taiyu Fishing Net and Equipment Manufacturing Company Limited at Shai-Hills/Afienya. Ayah purportedly pushed Ms. Tetteh forcefully onto the cemented floor, rendering her unconscious until she was revived by neighbours.

Ms Tetteh was later found unconscious in her room on February 25, 2024, and rushed to General Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival. Ayah and his accomplice, Francis Ntsiful, were arrested thereafter. The prosecution stated that there were no signs of assault on the deceased's body upon inspection at the hospital.

Further investigation revealed that Ayah and the deceased were colleagues at Taiyu Fishing Net and Equipment Manufacturing Company Limited. A prior dispute at work led Ayah to lose interest in his job. On February 24, 2024, Ntsiful allegedly informed Ayah that the deceased had insulted him, prompting Ayah to confront her in her hostel room, resulting in a scuffle that led to her fatal fall.

The prosecution informed the court that investigations were ongoing, including arranging for an autopsy by a pathologist and submitting the case docket to the 's office for review and advice.

The case underscores the gravity of workplace disputes and the potential consequences when conflicts escalate to violence. The court's decision to remand Ayah reflects the seriousness of the charges against him, pending further investigation and legal proceedings.
