The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially distanced itself from controversial remarks made by its Bono Regional Chairman, Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye DC, against Archbishop Nicholas Duncan-Williams.

In a statement issued from the party’s national headquarters in Accra and signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, the NPP described the comments as “unfortunate and unprovoked,” stressing that they do not reflect the values, beliefs, or official position of the party.

The party emphasised its high regard for religious leadership and acknowledged the immense contributions of Archbishop Duncan-Williams and the broader faith community to national development, peace, and moral guidance.

“As a democratic and inclusive political tradition, the NPP upholds freedom of expression. However, we expect our members to exercise that freedom with utmost responsibility, respect, and decorum—especially when addressing revered religious figures whose influence transcends partisan lines,” the statement noted.

The party urged the public, particularly the Christian community, to treat Mr. Baffoe’s statements as his personal opinions and not as representative of the New Patriotic Party.

Reaffirming its commitment to national unity, the NPP reiterated its dedication to maintaining respectful engagement with all sectors of Ghanaian society and continuing its partnership with religious institutions for the advancement of the country.
