Tragic accident claims life of thirteen-year-old girl in Tarkwa Nsuaem Municipality

A tragic occurred on Friday morning in Kwabedu, resulting in the death of a thirteen-year-old girl who was on her way to school.

The , which took place around 6:30 am, involved a Tata school bus registered as GN 681-11, belonging to Lee's Kingdom Kids Montessori School. Eyewitnesses along the Kwabedu stretch reported that the bus, carrying approximately thirty-three children and adults, was en route from to Kwabedu, the location of the school.

According to accounts from witnesses, the accident unfolded when a taxicab from the opposite direction attempted to overtake a vehicle ahead, leading to a sudden encounter with the school bus. In a bid to avoid collision, the bus driver swerved, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and into a ditch. Tragically, the young girl, who was passing by on her way to school, became trapped under the bus.

Upon arrival at the scene, members of the public rescued all occupants of the bus, who sustained various injuries, and promptly transported them to Goldfields and Municipal hospitals for medical attention. Despite efforts to save her, the young girl was pronounced dead upon arrival at the hospital.

Subsequent inquiries at the hospitals confirmed that all other passengers had been treated and discharged. The body of the deceased has been transferred to the Tarkwa Municipal hospital mortuary for preservation and autopsy.

The community is left grieving over this heartbreaking incident, highlighting the need for enhanced road safety measures to prevent such tragedies in the future. Authorities are urged to investigate the circumstances leading to the accident to prevent similar occurrences and ensure the safety of all road users.
