Parliament's Minority Caucus calls for Minister of Energy to address power cut crisis

Members of the in have made a fervent appeal to the leadership of the House, urging them to invite Dr Mathew Opoku Prempeh, the Minister of Energy, to provide an update on the government's actions to resolve the recent power cuts that have plagued the nation.

Mr. Alhassan Suhuyini, the National Democratic Congress () Member of (MP) for North, expressed concern over the adverse effects of the alleged power outages on households and businesses. He emphasized the challenges faced by individuals and businesses in planning their activities due to the unpredictability of power supply, leading to additional expenses incurred from powering generators.

Mr. Suhuyini stressed the importance of summoning the Energy Minister to brief the House on the current power situation, including the reasons behind the frequent power outages. He emphasized the need for transparency to address public concerns and alleviate the hardships faced by Ghanaians who are grappling with the intermittent power supply.

Echoing Mr. Suhuyini's sentiments, Mr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed, the MP for Central, recounted an incident involving a National Service Personnel who was trapped in one of Parliament's lifts during a power cut. He highlighted the psychological trauma experienced by individuals as a result of erratic power supply and urged the Minister of Energy to provide explanations to the House and the public.

The called for accountability and transparency in addressing the power crisis, emphasizing the need for the government to keep citizens informed about developments in the energy sector. They urged swift action to alleviate the suffering caused by the ongoing power cuts and to ensure the reliability and stability of the nation's power supply.
