NAGRAT President advocates dialogue to address free SHS policy issues

Angel Carbonu, the President of the (NAGRAT), is urging for constructive dialogue to tackle issues within the free Senior High School () policy, advocating for sustainable solutions to challenges in the educational sector.

In an on The Point of View on Citi TV, Carbonu emphasized the importance of initiating a conversation to address the shortcomings of the free program. He underscored the need for stakeholders to engage in dialogue to iron out any existing issues, stating, “There's a need for a conversation for us to be able to iron out some rough edges of the free Senior High School concept.”

Carbonu stressed the significance of expanding the scope of this conversation to encompass broader educational challenges. He highlighted concerns regarding the decline in public business schools and the necessity for bursaries in tertiary institutions. To address these issues effectively, he called for the convening of a stakeholder dialogue facilitated by knowledgeable individuals.

Moreover, Carbonu noted that various unions in the educational sector have submitted their proposals to political parties for consideration in their manifestos. He urged political parties to incorporate these proposals into their manifestos, emphasizing the importance of aligning promises with actionable measures outlined in manifestos.

“We don't want people to come and stand on platforms and make flowery promises,” Carbonu remarked, emphasizing the need for tangible commitments based on the proposals submitted by educational unions.
