Assembly member tackles perennial flooding in electoral area

Nana Gyamanso, the Assembly Member for Akromanto Electoral Area in the Wassa Amenfi West Municipality of the , has taken proactive steps to address the perennial issue of flooding in some communities within the area.

Recognizing the severe impact of flooding on lives and properties during the rainy season, Nana Gyamanso has initiated measures to address underlying problems contributing to the recurring floods. Specifically, he has focused on fixing culverts at City and dredging the Benkyere River at Aboi Junction.

In an interview with the (GNA), Nana Gyamanso highlighted recommendations from experts, emphasizing the importance of fixing culverts and desilting the Benkyere River to mitigate flooding effectively. Stressing the urgency of the situation, he emphasized the need to undertake these measures during the dry season to alleviate the burden on residents.

Identifying choked gutters and indiscriminate dumping of refuse as key factors exacerbating flooding, Nana Gyamanso emphasized the importance of responsible waste management practices. He announced plans to establish a monitoring committee to enforce proper waste disposal and punish offenders who dump refuse indiscriminately.

Mr Clement Cudjoe, Unit Committee Chairman for the Electoral Area, raised concerns about activities contributing to the flooding issue and called on authorities to take action to prevent future disasters.

Residents of City and Aboi Junction expressed gratitude to the Assembly Member for his initiative, acknowledging that the proposed measures would bring relief during the rainy season. They highlighted the challenges faced when cut off from neighbouring communities during heavy rains, particularly impacting school children, and welcomed the efforts to address these issues.

Nana Gyamanso's proactive approach and collaborative efforts with residents and local authorities reflect a commitment to safeguarding communities from the adverse effects of flooding, ensuring a safer and more resilient environment for all.
