The resignation of as Majority Leader in Ghana's is deemed an unprecedented event in the country's parliamentary history, according to Dr Rasheed Draman, the Executive Director of the (ACEPA).

After an emergency meeting between members of the and President Nana , Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu stepped down on February 21, marking a rare occurrence in parliamentary leadership transitions. Dr. Draman expressed surprise at the unexpected resignation and suggested that the move may have been forced.

In normal circumstances, leadership changes involve consultation, discussions, and consensus within the party and caucus. Dr. Draman highlighted that majority leaders rarely resign, making this event a significant departure from the usual practices in Ghana's parliamentary democracy.

Reflecting on the political developments in the last four days, Dr Draman speculated that the resignation was not part of a typical leadership transition. He emphasized the importance of unity within the party, especially as they pursue the ambitious goal of “Breaking the Eight.”

While calling for reinforcing unity at various levels within the party, Dr Draman cautioned against actions that could create divisions or fractures. He stressed the need for the party to prioritize internal cohesion and address any emerging challenges to maintain a united front.
