The Majority Leader and Member of for Suame constituency, , has officially resigned from his role as the leader of the in . Sources within the New Patriotic Party () reveal that he willingly offered to step down during a meeting of the caucus in Parliament and the Executive, including President .

The Deputy Majority Leader and MP for Efutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, is set to assume the leadership position following Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu's departure. The decision comes after brief tensions between the caucus and the executive over reported plans to reshuffle the 's leadership.

The move sparked protests from First Deputy Speaker, Joe Osei-Owusu, and others who were determined to resist changes dictated by the party, expressing satisfaction with the current leadership led by Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu.

Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Bagbin, weighed in on the matter, emphasizing that parties with representation in Parliament play a significant role in appointing the leadership of their caucuses. He stressed the importance of party involvement in the process, considering that members come to Parliament on the ticket of their respective parties.

The National Council of the NPP is scheduled to be briefed on this development during its meeting on Friday. The resolution of leadership tensions aims to foster unity within the party and the majority caucus in Parliament.
