Professor Seidu Alidu, Head of the Political Science Department at the University of Ghana, has suggested that President Akufo-Addo's recent ministerial reshuffle might be part of the New Patriotic Party's (NPP) electoral strategy.

In an interview with the Ghana News Agency, Prof. Alidu expressed his view that the decision to reshuffle ministers could serve to reenergize the NPP's base, responding to calls from within the party for a change in leadership.

While acknowledging that the reshuffle might energize the NPP's supporters, Prof. Alidu also raised concerns that the changes in ministries may not effectively address the country's pressing economic challenges.

He noted that the timing of the reshuffle raises suspicions among Ghanaians, suggesting that it may be perceived more as a political manoeuvre than a genuine effort to build the nation.

President Akufo-Addo's recent shakeup saw the removal of 13 Ministers and 10 deputies from their positions with immediate effect, including key figures such as the Finance Minister Ken Ofori Atta, Interior Minister Ambrose Dery, and Health Minister Kwaku Agyemang Manu.

Prof. Alidu highlighted the challenges faced by the newly appointed ministers, suggesting that they may not have sufficient time to make significant impacts in their respective ministries before the end of the year.

He also pointed out that many of the new ministers are also Members of Parliament (MPs) who will soon need to focus on campaigning for reelection in their constituencies, potentially diverting attention from their ministerial duties.

Overall, Prof. Alidu's analysis suggests that while the reshuffle may have political implications for the NPP, its effectiveness in addressing governance and economic issues remains uncertain.
