Ministerial Reshuffle: Ofori-Atta elevated to a rather sumptuous ‘mafia don’ role – Franklin Cudjoe

The removal of Finance Minister in President 's recent reshuffle has elicited mixed reactions among Ghanaians. While some welcome the change, others perceive it differently.

For many, Ofori-Atta's departure comes as a relief, given the demands from both majority and minority legislators citing his alleged mishandling of the economy. However, Franklin Cudjoe of believes that the situation has been misinterpreted, arguing that it's not a demotion but rather an elevation to a different role.

Cudjoe points out that Ofori-Atta's new position as the President's Special Envoy on international investment and capital markets gives him significant influence over transformative deals. He suggests that this shift reduces the 's role to mere paper-pushers, with Ofori-Atta holding sway over critical financial decisions.

However, Cudjoe raises concerns about the accountability of Ofori-Atta's new role, likening it to a “mafia don” scenario where he enjoys power without the same level of scrutiny and responsibility. He suggests that Ofori-Atta may adopt a more discreet approach, pulling strings from behind the scenes.

In addition to his new role, Ofori-Atta will also serve as a Senior Presidential Advisor to President on economic matters. This multi-faceted portfolio positions Ofori-Atta as a key figure in shaping Ghana's economic landscape, albeit with a different set of responsibilities and expectations.
