Residents of Tamale have expressed divergent opinions on the vision outlined by Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, who also serves as the Flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP). Speaking to the Ghana News Agency (GNA), some residents deemed Dr Bawumia's promises as unattainable, while others expressed hope in his proposed initiatives.
Mr Abdul-Muhsin Inusah, a young resident, questioned the feasibility of Dr Bawumia's promises, considering that many of the initiatives mentioned were already being implemented under the current government. He expressed scepticism regarding the Vice President's ability to fulfil his pledges if elected president.
Similarly, Miss Vida Dokurugu, a student, voiced scepticism about Dr Bawumia's capacity to enact significant changes, given his involvement in ongoing economic initiatives that have reportedly burdened taxpayers. She cast doubt on the Vice President's commitment to withdrawing the e-levy and other taxes she deemed unnecessary.
Echoing these sentiments, Mr. Franscis N-Pari criticized Dr. Bawumia for making what he termed as “unrealistic promises” akin to those of the President. He urged the public to scrutinize politicians' patterns and manage their expectations accordingly.
Conversely, Mr. Yahaya Abdul Manaf expressed optimism in Dr. Bawumia's vision, believing that as President, he would have more authority to deliver on his promises. He supported Dr. Bawumia's call for citizens to entrust him with leadership, citing the limitations of the Vice President's role.
Dr Bawumia's vision address included proposals such as the scrapping of certain taxes and the reduction of state Ministers to 50. While some residents remain sceptical about the feasibility of these initiatives, others are hopeful that Dr Bawumia can deliver on his promises if elected to lead the country.
