Mrs. Samira Bawumia, Wife of the Vice President, has officiated the groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a 700-bed ultramodern dormitory block at OLA Girls Senior High School in Ho.
The project, initiated by the Past OLA Girls Association (POGA) to commemorate the school's 70th Anniversary, addresses critical infrastructure challenges faced by the esteemed institution.
Mrs. Bawumia commended POGA for their dedication to enhancing student comfort and empowerment. She pledged her support towards positioning the school as a beacon of girl-child empowerment.
The sod-cutting event was graced by Dr. Archibald Yao Letsa, the Volta Regional Minister, and Dr. Edem Sabah Welbeck, the Global President of POGA, alongside other dignitaries.
Dr. Dela Mawutor, Third Vice President of POGA and Head of Public Relations, detailed that the four-story dormitory block, named the “POGA Legacy Project,” is estimated to cost 14 million cedis. Construction is set to commence immediately, with a call for widespread support.
The facility aims to provide a standard residence worthy of the school's esteemed reputation. Funds were raised during the event to expedite the project's realization.
Madam Benedicta Agbezudor, Head Mistress of the school, highlighted several challenges including staff deficit, limited student accommodation, and inadequate classrooms and dining space. She emphasized the urgent need to address these issues, including the provision of additional security personnel, kitchen staff, furniture sets, and renovation of laboratories.
Chairing the ceremony, Mrs. Gina Blay, Ghana's Ambassador to Germany and an alumna, rallied fellow alumni to support the school's initiatives. She emphasized the importance of unity and shared vision in equipping students to achieve their full potential.
