KT Hammond accuses rival Samuel Binfoh Darkwah of thuggery

The parliamentary primaries in Adansi Asokwa took an unexpected turn as the incumbent Member of , K.T Hammond, accused his rival, Samuel Binfoh Darkwah, of orchestrating assaults on his supporters. The allegations of violence marred what was anticipated to be a closely contested election on Saturday, January 27.

According to K.T. Hammond, his supporters were attacked by thugs in the early hours of the voting day. He reported the incident to the police at the voting centre and claimed that the Minister of , Samuel Binfoh Darkwah, had also threatened to use thugs against him.

Expressing his concerns, K.T. Hammond questioned the intimidation tactics, emphasizing his position in the cabinet and warning against downplaying issues during internal elections. He stated, “Why is he intimidating my supporters? I'm a cabinet member, does he know this? If you downplay issues during internal elections because of your position, you will be taken off guard.”

In response to the accusations, one of K.T. Hammond's supporters claimed he was beaten by a group allegedly associated with Samuel Binfoh Darkwah. The supporter stated that the attackers threatened to beat anyone voting for K.T. Hammond. Despite the alleged assault, the supporter emphasized his commitment to voting for K.T. Hammond.

Samuel Binfoh Darkwah dismissed the allegations, attributing them to K.T. Hammond's frustration over failed attempts to disqualify him. Darkwah stated, “It's just a clear sign of frustration, a clear sign of someone desperate. If he doesn't know me, it's not . He claimed that I should be disqualified, but it didn't take place.”
