The Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, Hon. Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has announced the lineup of activities for Ghana’s 68th Independence Day celebrations.

According to the National Celebrations Planning Committee, the commemorative events will begin with the annual wreath-laying ceremony to mark the 28th February Crossroad Shooting Incident. Other activities include the finals of a nationwide school quiz competition on Sunday, March 2, followed by the finals of a nationwide debate competition on Tuesday, March 4. On Wednesday, March 5, the President’s School Children Awards Programme will be held. The main Independence Day ceremonial parade will take place on Thursday, March 6, at the forecourt of the Presidency.

In preparation for the wreath-laying ceremony, the Communications Subcommittee of the planning committee will roll out an information and educational campaign on television, radio, and social media. The campaign aims to reignite public interest, especially among the youth, in the significance of the event while honouring national heroes.

Additionally, a Twitter Space conversation will be held on the topic, “The Changing Face of Civil Protests in Ghana: Lessons from the Past and Present.” Media outlets, bloggers, and the general public are encouraged to actively engage by sharing related content to promote public participation in the celebrations.

Hon. Felix Kwakye Ofosu stated that further updates on the remaining activities will be provided in due course.
