The Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has concluded its investigation into former Minister of Sanitation and Water Resources, Cecilia Dapaah, regarding corruption allegations.
The case, which involves theft from her residence, has now been referred to the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO).
Speaking at a press briefing on Thursday, January 25, 2024, Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng stated, “The case has been referred to EOCO because its investigations show that the case has to do with money laundering, and the office has the mandate per the constitution to look into such matters.”
Agyebeng announced that all criminal cases and investigations against the former minister have been discontinued, with the OSP ordered by the court to unfreeze her assets within 72 hours.
He emphasized that the OSP's evidence will support EOCO's investigation into the matter.
Background information reveals that Cecilia Dapaah was under investigation for corruption and corruption-related offenses following allegations that her house helps stole over $1 million, €300,000 in cash, and other valuable items from her residence in Abelemkpe. Consequently, some of her assets were frozen by the OSP.
In response, Dapaah filed an injunction against the OSP at the Supreme Court, seeking to halt further actions that she deemed infringed on her rights.
