The Ghana Statistical Service (GSS) has officially commenced the field data collection phase for the 2024 Ghana Integrated Business Establishment Survey Phase I (IBES I).
Approximately 14,000 trained Field Officers have been deployed nationwide for this comprehensive survey.
In a statement issued in Accra, the GSS outlined the focus of IBES Phase I, stating that Field Officers would visit every structure and space in their assigned areas to enumerate all business entities.
This includes businesses operating in structures, open spaces, mobile businesses, and virtual businesses.
The IBES Phase I aims to compile a detailed list of businesses, capturing essential characteristics that contribute to the development of a robust Statistical Business Register and other key statistical indicators, fostering national development.
The survey will provide updated data on activities, locations, ownership, ages, and sizes of businesses, informing policy, planning, and monitoring of business growth and national development programs.
The collected data will also facilitate the revision of key macroeconomic indicators such as Gross Domestic Product, Producer Price Index, and the Index of Industrial Production.
Additionally, the survey will shed light on the employment status of workers, bridging the gap between the labor needs of firms and the available skills.
It will also reveal characteristics of the informal sector, guiding the development of policies aimed at formalizing the economy and improving worker welfare.
The GSS assured the public that Field Officers could be identified by their IBES Vests and Identification Cards and encouraged cooperation to ensure the success of this essential national exercise.
