Ghana's Afua Asantewaa Owusu Aduonum, who recently attempted the Guinness World Record singing marathon, is now setting her sights on achieving four additional records from her remarkable effort of 126 hours and 52 minutes.
Afua Asantewaa's team has already submitted evidence of her singing marathon to the Guinness World Records for review and confirmation.
In an interview with the Daily Graphic, Aduonum revealed her plans to pursue multiple records, stating, “I think the current attempt I made captures four records, but many haven't paid attention.”
She further explained, “There are many records that I have broken, but you have to apply for them separately. Currently, we are doing the longest singing marathon, but it applies to four or five records on their platforms.”
The records she intends to apply for include the first Ghanaian and African female to perform for five continuous days, the longest-lasting musical event in Ghana and Africa, the first musical show to attract eight DJs in continuous performance across five days, and the first female to attempt a singing marathon.
Afua Asantewaa clarified that they had submitted the current attempt but would be submitting the others separately.
Afua Asantewaa Owusu Aduonum, also the Chief Executive Officer of ASKOF Productions Limited, has already been recognized for her achievement.
Following the singing marathon held from December 24 to 29, she was named a Tourism Ambassador by the Ministry of Tourism, Arts, and Culture.
The singing marathon, which took place at the Akwaaba Village at the Accra International Airport, attracted widespread attention and support.
Notable personalities, including Vice President Dr Mahamudu Bawumia and Mr Alan Kyeremanten, joined the event. A team of eight DJs, 20 medical staff, a voice coach, and other professionals supported Aduonum throughout the five-day endeavour.
Despite facing challenges with her voice on the second day, Aduonum's determination and various therapies led to what she described as a “miraculous recovery.” The event drew a significant crowd of supporters and ended almost seven hours into the sixth day due to medical intervention.
Reflecting on her inspiration for attempting the singing marathon, Aduonum shared that she initially considered other Guinness World Record attempts, such as the fastest 100-meter run in heels by a woman. However, she chose the longest singing marathon, aligning it to promote Ghanaian music on a national scale.
The mother of three drew inspiration from Nigerian chef Hilda Baci's successful attempt at the longest cooking record earlier in 2023. Aduonum expressed gratitude for the overwhelming public support and noted the positive impact of the event on inspiring others to attempt different records.
“It was a concert that kept society together and united. If it has inspired others to attempt other records, I'm happy about it,” she added.
