The Progressive People's Party (PPP) is setting its sights on securing 27 parliamentary seats in the upcoming December general election, aiming to establish itself as a formidable third force in Parliament.
Mr. Felix Mantey, the National Communications Director of the PPP, expressed confidence in the party's ability to make significant political strides in the Western, Central, Eastern, Ashanti, and Greater Accra regions.
“I do not doubt that in January 2025, we will have at least 27 formidable PPP Members of Parliament. The party will go all out to contest and convincingly win the presidential election,” said Mr. Felix Mantey in a statement to the Ghana News Agency.
The party has initiated a comprehensive membership drive, utilizing a self-registering WhatsApp platform, and a short code (*931#) to register both new and existing executives. According to Mantey, more than 150,000 members have been registered across the country.
“Many are in the process of becoming the winning team and contesting various national, regional, and constituency elections,” he added.
The PPP is gearing up for the elections by opening nominations for its presidential candidate and parliamentary slots.
While the parliamentary form costs GH₵200 with an additional GH₵5000 upon submission, the fees for youth and women have been reduced by 50 percent. The cost for the presidential slot was not immediately disclosed.
Mantey hinted at possible contenders for the presidential slot, including Dr. Papa Kwesi Nduom, the Founder, and the 2016 flagbearer, Mrs. Brigitte Dzogbenuku, the 2016 running mate and the 2020 flagbearer, and Mr. Kofi Asamoah-Siaw, a Policy Advisor and the First National Secretary.
In his statement, Mantey criticized both the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), asserting that a vote for either party would be a wasted vote.
“Ghanaians deserve honest and competent leaders who will not play with their trust. As it stands now, it is only the PPP that can do so,” Mantey emphasized.
He urged the electorate to use the December 7 election to vote for the PPP, claiming it to be the only party determined to redeem Ghana from its current economic challenges.
