NPP aspirant for Nandom Constituency vows to appeal disqualification: Ghana News

Mr. Alois Kog Kyaakpier Mohl, a New Patriotic Party () parliamentary aspirant for the Nandom Constituency, has expressed his intention to appeal his disqualification by the vetting committee from participating in the upcoming primary.

Mr. Mohl, who sought to contest against the incumbent Member of , Mr. , was disqualified by the Nandom Constituency Executives.

Accusing him of consistently campaigning against the party's parliamentary candidate in previous general elections, the Constituency Executives reminded Mr. Mohl of the forfeiture of his membership after declaring his intentions to contest in the primary.

Mr. Mohl, speaking to the , accused the vetting committee of bias, stating, “It is in their power to take a decision and they have so ruled that they cannot vet me because they said I refused to respond to the forfeiture letter.”

He maintained that he is a law-abiding and peaceful person and urged his supporters to refrain from destructive actions.

Expressing confidence in the Appeals Committee of the party, Mr. Mohl stated, “I call on my supporters that nobody is going to engage in destructive actions.”

Dr. Tanko Daniel Dawda, the Regional Secretary of the and a member of the vetting committee, defended the disqualification, citing allegations that Mr. Mohl consistently campaigned against the Member of and did not attend party meetings.

When asked about the evidence supporting the allegations, Dr. Dawda mentioned that the minutes of the meetings presented to the vetting committee were sufficient.

“There was no need for any other evidence,” Dr. Dawda stated. “We would have insisted on hardcore evidence if the applicant had also applied, denying those allegations, which he didn't do, so what are you going to base on?”
