The Member of Parliament for Abura-Asebu-Kwamankese, Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has defended the remand of a senior nurse linked to the “Ghana Jollof” social media persona, saying the case involves alleged incitement and threats rather than criticism of the government.
Speaking in a JoyNews interview, Mr. Kwakye Ofosu said no individual is arrested simply for insulting President John Dramani Mahama or describing him as incompetent.

He said the issue concerns statements considered capable of breaching the peace, inciting violence or threatening the lives of public officials.
According to him, investigations suggest that the nurse assisted in disseminating and recruiting others to redistribute content linked to the alleged overthrow of government and threats to life.
The nurse is currently on remand for two weeks while investigations continue.
Mr. Kwakye Ofosu maintained that the evidence against her is “heavy” and rejected the suggestion that she is innocent.
He drew a distinction between political criticism and what he described as “incendiary commentary,” saying citizens are free to criticise the government but must exercise their democratic rights within legal limits.
He cited alleged threats to “behead the president and his wife” and calls for the unlawful removal of the government as examples of conduct that goes beyond political criticism.
Mr. Kwakye Ofosu also referred to the 2016 “Montie 3” case, in which individuals were jailed for threatening judges, arguing that similar standards should apply regardless of which political party is in power.
He said the government’s position is that the arrests are not aimed at suppressing dissent but at enforcing the law where public statements are considered capable of threatening peace and state security.
