Seven African countries have visited Ghana over the past year to study how the Ghana Gold Board (GoldBod) governs the country’s gold sector.
Sierra Leone, Mozambique, Tanzania, Zimbabwe, Zambia, Sudan and Namibia have all sent delegations to GoldBod to examine how artisanal and small-scale mining can be brought into a formal and traceable system without shutting miners out.

Sierra Leone’s Minister of Finance, Sheku Ahmed Fantamadi Bangura, described the GoldBod model as a potential blueprint for sustainable gold-sector reform in Africa.
A delegation from Tanzania’s Minerals Commission, led by Dr. Theresia Numbi, said it chose Ghana after comparing several countries and described Ghana as a pioneer and centre of excellence on the continent.
Namibia’s team also described the model as a robust framework from which it could draw lessons.
Ghana introduced the GoldBod model as part of efforts to address challenges in its own gold sector.
The visits over the past year indicate that the approaches being implemented by Ghana in the gold sector are attracting attention from other African countries.
