The National Road Safety Authority (NRSA) and the Central East Motor Traffic and Transport Department in Ghana have collaborated on an education and coordinated enforcement exercise to enhance road safety during and after the Christmas festivities.
The exercise, which commenced on December 28, focuses on various aspects, including unprescribed lamps, vehicles with relay drivers, and logbooks.
The outreach involves educating passengers on road safety rules and encouraging them to ensure that drivers adhere to these rules.
Additionally, passengers are urged to report any recalcitrant drivers to the police. The initiative aims to create awareness, enforce compliance, and enhance overall road safety.
Miss Catherine Hamilton, the Greater Accra Regional Director of NRSA, mentioned that the exercise would extend to other highways.
Furthermore, she highlighted the NRSA's plan to address jaywalking, emphasizing the importance of such exercises in informing decisions and shaping future policies for improving road safety.
As part of the outreach, passengers are educated on responsible behaviour during the festive season, promoting a sense of moderation and caution.
