The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has expressed deep and sincere gratitude to individuals and institutions whose support contributed to the successful evacuation of Ghanaian nationals affected by xenophobic attacks in South Africa.
Mr. Ablakwa expressed the appreciation when he welcomed the final batch of 41 evacuees at the Accra International Airport on Friday, September 4, 2026.

He thanked staff of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, both at the Ministry and the Ghana High Commission in Pretoria, as well as the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO), Ghana Red Cross Society, Ghana Immigration Service, Ghana Health Service, Port Health Authority and the Ghana Armed Forces.
The Minister expressed special appreciation to The Church of Pentecost in South Africa for providing shelter and other essential support to Ghanaians in South Africa who were awaiting evacuation.
He also thanked AirtelTigo for providing free SIM cards with token call credits to all the nearly 1,900 evacuees.
The Government of Ghana concluded the evacuation exercise on Friday, September 4, 2026, with the arrival of the final batch of 41 evacuees, bringing the exercise to an end.
