The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has assured Ghanaians evacuated from South Africa following xenophobic attacks in the country that government will continue to provide the needed support to facilitate their reintegration.
He gave the assurance on Friday, September 4, 2026, when he welcomed the final batch of 41 evacuees at the Accra International Airport. He was accompanied by Ambassadors and Directors of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as officials from other government institutions.

The arrival of the final batch brought the total number of Ghanaians evacuated from South Africa since May 2026 to nearly 1,900, bringing the evacuation exercise to a conclusion.
Each of the nearly 1,900 evacuees was provided with reintegration financial support, transportation allowance, medical care, psychosocial support, free health insurance registration and ongoing employment assistance.
Mr. Ablakwa said, in addition to the welcome packages prepared for the returnees, their details would be included in a comprehensive database to enable them to access appropriate social support systems, skills development and scholarship opportunities, among other interventions.
He said the measures were intended to support the evacuees as they rebuild their lives and contribute meaningfully to national development.
The Minister encouraged the returnees to remain hopeful and take advantage of the opportunities available in Ghana.
He also assured them of government’s commitment to work assiduously to improve the economic condition of the country and create more opportunities for every Ghanaian citizen.
