Akufo-Addo vows to produce quality teachers for 21st century education

President Nana Addo Dankwa has reaffirmed the government's commitment to collaborate with relevant stakeholders in producing high-caliber capable of meeting the evolving demands of the 21st-century educational system.

Speaking at the 2023 Ghana Teacher Prize Awards in , President emphasized the 's (MoE) dedication to implementing policies and initiatives, in coordination with the (NTC), to nurture and maintain quality educators crucial to Ghana's educational transformation.

The President underscored the significance of enhancing teacher quality and skill sets. He highlighted the NTC's role in implementing policies like the Ghana Teacher Licensure Examination, which ensures that newly recruited meet professional standards and are well-suited for the profession.

Moreover, the MoE, through the NTC, has instituted a point-based continuous professional development system aimed at keeping teachers competitive and relevant in an ever-changing of knowledge and skills.

President Akufo-Addo emphasized the importance of an education system that fosters critical thinking, creativity, problem-solving, empathy, and adaptability skills.

He expressed the vision of an education system where no child is left behind, and every Ghanaian child has access to a minimum of Senior High School () and Technical and Vocational Education and Training ().

To achieve this vision, he stressed the necessity of a particular kind of teacher – one who not only imparts information but also facilitates learning experiences, inspires curiosity, ignites passion, and is committed to continuous development.

The President assured that his government was dedicated to transforming teaching into an attractive and esteemed profession that attracts the best minds and knowledge while retaining experienced educators.

While acknowledging the strides made by his administration in improving teachers' working conditions, President Akufo-Addo recognized the challenges teachers face, including inadequate resources and limited professional development opportunities, which can sometimes hinder their ability to provide quality education.

He called upon all stakeholders to collectively address these challenges and create an enabling environment for teachers to thrive and continue making a positive impact on the lives of students.

President Akufo-Addo concluded by reiterating his commitment to ensuring teachers receive the recognition, support, and resources necessary to excel, vowing to continue working tirelessly to improve the conditions in which they teach and provide ongoing opportunities for students.
