Zeepay says it is working closely with the Bank of Ghana (BoG) and other stakeholders to ensure an orderly resolution following the revocation of its Dedicated Electronic Money Issuer (DEMI) licence.

The BoG revoked the licence with immediate effect on July 14, 2026, citing multiple regulatory breaches, including issuing electronic money without sufficient cash backing and failing to comply with regulatory directives.

The central bank said Zeepay’s actions posed a risk to customers and the stability of Ghana’s payment system.

In a statement, Zeepay acknowledged the concerns arising from the decision and assured customers, employees, agents, merchants and partners that it is committed to managing the process responsibly.

The company said it will continue to work constructively with the Bank of Ghana while maintaining open and transparent communication throughout the process.

Zeepay added that further verified updates will be communicated through its official channels as they become available.

Under the Payment Systems and Services Act, 2019 (Act 987), electronic money issuers whose licences are revoked are required to refund customers’ electronic money balances within 10 days.
