ASSETS explores partnership with Trade Ministry to boost SME exports

The Ministry of Trade, Agribusiness and Industry (MoTAI) has expressed its readiness to collaborate with the African Start-ups and SMEs in Export Trade Secretariat (ASSETS), a pan-African non-profit organisation, to strengthen the capacity of Ghanaian startups and small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) to access regional and international markets.

The assurance was given by the Deputy Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Sampson Ahi, on behalf of the Sector Minister, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, when he received a delegation from ASSETS, led by its Team Lead, Mr Peter Adetor, during a courtesy call at the Ministry on Thursday, July 9, 2026.

The visit was aimed at introducing ASSETS and its ongoing trade support initiatives for Ghanaian startups and SMEs while exploring opportunities for collaboration with the Ministry in advancing the country’s trade and industrialisation agenda.

ASSETS, a pan-African non-profit organisation headquartered in Accra, is dedicated to empowering African startups and SMEs to access global markets, with a strong focus on leveraging opportunities under the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

During the meeting, the delegation highlighted key areas for potential collaboration, including capacity building, export readiness programmes, trade missions, and the effective implementation of the AfCFTA. Discussions also centred on policy directions to support SMEs in international trade, particularly in the areas of access to finance, regulatory compliance and market access.

Receiving the delegation on behalf of the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry, Hon. Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, Hon. Sampson Ahi commended ASSETS for its commitment to supporting the growth of Ghanaian businesses and promoting intra-African trade.

He reaffirmed the Ministry’s commitment to working with strategic partners to create opportunities for local enterprises to expand into regional and global markets.

The Minister also stressed the importance of working closely with the Ghana Enterprises Agency to expand opportunities for entrepreneurs through skills development, start-up support and seed funding. She expressed confidence that stronger collaboration between the Ministry and MTN Ghana would help empower entrepreneurs, promote innovation and accelerate private sector-led economic development in Ghana.
