Tanker explosion on the Akosombo-Tema Highway kills one

A tanker explosion on the Akosombo–Tema Highway has claimed one life and left another person critically injured.

The incident occurred after a fuel tanker reportedly overturned and caught fire, engulfing nearby vehicles.

One male victim, believed to be the tanker driver, was burnt beyond recognition at the scene, while another person sustained critical injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

The Ghana National Fire Service responded to the incident and brought the fire under control, preventing it from spreading further.

Traffic on the highway was temporarily disrupted as firefighters and police secured the area, removed the wreckage and cleared the road.

Authorities have launched investigations into the cause of the accident, with preliminary information suggesting a possible mechanical failure.

The public has been urged to exercise caution on the roads and avoid interfering with emergency response operations at accident scenes.
