GHS, police investigate missing newborn at Salaga hospital

The Savannah Regional Health Directorate of the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has announced that a newborn baby reported missing at the East Gonja District Hospital in Salaga is the subject of an ongoing investigation.

According to a statement issued by the Directorate, the incident occurred on June 10, 2026.

The Directorate said an immediate search was conducted within the facility after the report was made, but the efforts did not yield any results.

The matter has since been reported to the East Gonja District Police Command for investigation.

The Regional Health Directorate expressed sympathy to the parents and family of the baby and assured them of its full support as efforts continue to locate the child.

It stated that it is working closely with the hospital management, the Ghana Police Service and other relevant stakeholders to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident and reunite the baby with the family.

The Directorate reiterated that the safety, security and well-being of patients, newborns and all clients remain a top priority of the Ghana Health Service.

It appealed to members of the public with information on the whereabouts of the missing baby to contact the nearest police station, the Savannah Regional Health Directorate or the East Gonja District Hospital, assuring that all information would be treated confidentially.
