Samuel Nartey George accuses MP of seeking publicity over parliamentary questions

Communications Minister Hon. Samuel Nartey George has responded to comments attributed to Hon. Mahama Tiah Abdul-Kabiru, accusing him of seeking publicity rather than engaging with substantive parliamentary responses.

In a statement addressed to Hon. Eric Edem Agbana, the Minister said the Member of Parliament had previously failed to be present in the House in March when he appeared to answer questions, adding that he had also not delegated any other MP to ask questions on his behalf.

He stated that he remained in Parliament for almost three hours that day without being allowed to respond, noting that his prepared answers were already published in the Business Statement for the day.

Hon. George said he had since provided written responses, but alleged that the MP had not engaged with them, insisting the matter was being treated politically rather than substantively.

He further noted that he is currently out of the country on official assignment, but has indicated he will appear in Parliament next Tuesday to repeat the answers already provided, subject to parliamentary programming.

The Minister also stated that the MP, who is a member of the Parliamentary Select Committee, has full access to the Ministry, adding that there is no question raised that has not been addressed.

He concluded that the MP may continue to frame his own narrative for partisan purposes, while he remains focused on his official responsibilities.
