The Ghana Prisons Service, on 13th May 2026, hosted eight senior officers from the Nigerian Correctional Service at the Ankaful Prison Complex on a study tour aimed at strengthening correctional administration and international cooperation.

Welcoming the delegation, Central Regional Commander DDP Joseph Asabre said the visit reflected the strong cooperation between Ghana and Nigeria in advancing correctional administration in the sub-region.

He said the visit provided an opportunity for professional learning, institutional collaboration and the exchange of best practices in corrections management, rehabilitation, reintegration, security, staff development and inmate welfare.

Assistant Controller General Cyrus Cham said the study tour was initiated by the Controller General of Corrections to enable the delegation to gain insights from Ghana’s correctional system. He also thanked the Central Regional Commander and UNODC for their support.

The delegation received presentations on inmate separation and classification within maximum-security prisons and the security infrastructure used in the facilities before touring the prison complex.

The officers later visited the Ankaful Main Camp Prison, where they observed exhibitions of products manufactured by inmates.

The study tour ended with a visit to Elmina Castle to provide historical context on the evolution of confinement and justice.
