Government inaugurates National Trade Policy Review Committee

The government has inaugurated the National Trade Policy Review Committee to strengthen trade and business activities in the country.

Speaking on behalf of the Minister for Trade, Agribusiness and Industry on 12 May 2026, Director of Policy Planning, Monitoring and Evaluation, Bernard Ayensu, said the committee will review existing trade policies and recommend strategies to support local industries, increase exports and create jobs.

He described trade as a major driver of economic growth and said the review would help address challenges, including fragmented global trade and dependence on commodities.

The committee is expected to consult traders, manufacturers, farmers and private sector stakeholders before submitting its final report.

Priority areas identified include rationalising the levy regime, ensuring compliance with fisheries subsidies, developing a digital trade framework for 2030, leveraging the African Continental Free Trade Area Secretariat, and promoting gender-responsive and MSME-inclusive trade initiatives.
