New moderator of the Presbyterian Church vows to tackle indiscipline and corruption:Ghana News

The recently inducted Moderator of the of Ghana, Rt Rev Dr Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, has pledged to lead in addressing issues of indiscipline, moral decay, and within society.

Speaking at his induction ceremony as the 19th Moderator of the General Assembly of the of Ghana (PCG), he emphasized 's commitment to speak out against regardless of the individuals involved.

Highlighting the prevalence of corruption not only within the political class but also in public and civil services and the private sector, Rt Rev Dr Kwakye expressed concern over the threat posed by individuals seeking to loot the national purse.

He stressed the church's responsibility to address such issues and condemned practices like (galamsey), including any involvement by political leaders.”PCG shall not fail to speak against it,” he affirmed.

The Moderator outlined his vision to lead the PCG in uprooting indiscipline, promoting decency, dismantling structures of social injustice, and combating the works of the devil with the assistance of Christ Jesus.

He articulated his commitment to building a Christ-centered, self-sustaining, and growing church, with a target to expand the PCG's reach from about 1.4 million to 2 million by the bicentennial year of 2028.

Vice President, Dr , who attended the induction ceremony, commended Rt Rev Dr Kwakye on his elevation, acknowledging his dedication, wisdom, and leadership within the Church.

Dr Bawumia recognized the crucial role of faith in shaping the moral fabric of the nation and looked forward to the Moderator's guidance in fostering spiritual growth, community engagement, and social justice.

Rt Rev Dr Abraham Nana Opare Kwakye, a product of Secondary School and the , brings a wealth of experience to his role.

With a background in the Study of Religions and a Doctor of Philosophy (Religions), he has served in various congregations and positions within the Presbyterian Church of Ghana.

The Moderator was appointed as a Lecturer at the 's Department for the Study of Religions in May 2013, where he was later promoted to the rank of Senior Lecturer in February 2020.
