Opoku-Agyemang attends democracy summit in Barcelona

Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has represented President John Dramani Mahama at the Fourth Meeting of the “In Defence of Democracy” Summit held in Barcelona.

Discussions at the meeting focused on strengthening institutions and multilateralism, addressing disinformation and digital technologies, and tackling extremism and inequality.

Opoku-Agyemang called for reforms to the international development system and global financial architecture to ensure equitable distribution of financial resources and fair lending conditions for developing countries.

She also highlighted the need for inclusive trade systems and referenced the African Continental Free Trade Area as a step towards integrating markets, boosting intra-African trade, and promoting economic growth.

She emphasised that strengthening governance, accountability, and oversight, particularly in the digital space, is essential to sustaining democracy.
