Government engages Foreign Affairs Ministry to strengthen policy coordination

Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has held a working engagement with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ghana, to strengthen coordination and advance Ghana’s foreign policy objectives.

The meeting involved Hon. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa and directors of various bureaus, focusing on aligning efforts within the Ministry.

Hon. Ablakwa outlined key reforms, including a UN resolution declaring the transatlantic slave trade the gravest crime against humanity, the introduction of chip-embedded passports, a reduction in processing time to 15 days, and a 30 per cent cut in passport costs.

He also highlighted the expansion of passport application centres nationwide, progress on visa waivers, and plans for an e-visa policy.

He noted strengthened economic diplomacy through performance benchmarks tied to trade and investment outcomes, as well as improvements in staff welfare, including new conditions of service and enhanced incentives.

The Vice President commended the Ministry’s performance, highlighting strong female representation and the importance of citizen-focused reforms such as the passport initiative.

She also emphasised the Ministry’s role in advancing the African Continental Free Trade Area and promoting Ghana’s global image.

The engagement reaffirmed government support for the Ministry’s efforts to enhance Ghana’s international standing and diplomatic impact.
