According to the Ministry, the Government of Ghana has called for a full, immediate, impartial and transparent investigation into the circumstances surrounding the attack on the Ghanaian Battalion deployed under the UN peacekeeping mission.
The government strongly condemned the incident, describing it as a serious violation of international law and an attack on personnel working to maintain global peace and security.
Authorities also stressed that such actions could amount to a war crime and undermine the protections granted to UN peacekeeping forces.
Ghana has therefore urged the United Nations to ensure that those responsible for the attack are identified and held accountable. The government further called on the UN to take all necessary measures to enhance the safety and security of Ghanaian troops and other personnel serving under the mission.
The Foreign Affairs Ministry assured the injured soldiers and their families that the government will pursue justice and continue to advocate for stronger protection for peacekeeping personnel operating in conflict zones.
Ghana also reaffirmed its long-standing commitment to UN peacekeeping operations, emphasizing that the safety of peacekeepers must remain a top priority in global efforts to maintain international peace and stability.
Officials say the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will continue to monitor the situation closely while engaging with relevant United Nations authorities regarding the investigation and the welfare of the Ghanaian contingent in Lebanon.
