Wa District Magistrate Court convicts three for unlawful possession of firearms

The Wa District Magistrate Court has convicted three individuals for unlawful possession of firearms and ammunition in the Wa West District.

The convicts,Yiritang Boosi, Yahaya Samad, and Adams Alhassan,were prosecuted on Wednesday, February 18, 2026, after previously being remanded in custody. They reappeared before the court where His Worship Simon Kofi Bediako presided over the case.

The accused persons pleaded guilty to charges of possessing firearms and ammunition without lawful authority. Following their plea, the court convicted them and sentenced each to a fine of 200 penalty units, equivalent to GH¢2,400.00.

In default of payment, they will serve nine months’ imprisonment.

The conviction forms part of ongoing efforts by the Ghana Police Service to clamp down on illegal weapons possession and related criminal activities in the Upper West Region.

The Regional Police Command has urged the public to continue supporting law enforcement agencies by providing timely and credible information to help combat crime in the region.
