Parliament, in collaboration with STAR-Ghana Foundation, is set to organize a Speaker's Breakfast Forum on November 20 at the Alisa Hotel in Accra.
The event aims to strengthen the relationship between the legislative body and Civil Society Organizations (CSOs) while reflecting on 30 years of parliamentary democracy in Ghana under the Fourth Republic.
Themed “Thirty Years of Parliamentary Democracy under the Fourth Republic: Reflection on Citizens Engagement and the Way Forward,” the forum will explore new avenues for collaboration between Parliament and CSOs to promote accountable governance.
Speaker Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin will deliver the keynote address, with guest speakers Professor Akosua Darkwah and Dr Rasheed Draman contributing to the discussions.
The event, attended by 150 participants from Parliament, CSOs, Think Tanks, Trade Unions, and the Media, is a crucial initiative to enhance citizen engagement in parliamentary affairs.
The collaboration between STAR-Ghana Foundation and Parliament seeks to leverage their partnership for the benefit of the public.
In recognizing the historic 30 years of uninterrupted parliamentary democracy in the Fourth Republic and the fifth anniversary of STAR-Ghana, the forum also aims to set up a Citizens Bureau within the Parliamentary Service.
This bureau will institutionalize engagements between Parliament and citizens through partnerships with the media, CSOs, and think tanks, ensuring a more effective and inclusive participation in the legislative process.
The initiative emphasizes bringing public concerns, hopes, and aspirations to the forefront, enabling Parliament to respond promptly to the needs of the people.
The forum is a testament to the commitment of Parliament in sustaining Ghana's democracy and fostering an enduring partnership with civil society for the benefit of the nation.
