President announces GH¢1 billion for Bawku redevelopment amid mediation efforts

A delegation has commended President John Dramani Mahama and the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, for the calm restored in Bawku through ongoing mediation efforts, describing the renewed peace as essential for development in the area.

Speaking on behalf of chiefs, queen mothers, and Metropolitan, Municipal and District Chief Executives (MMDCEs), the Paramount Chief and President of the Upper East Regional House of Chiefs, Channa Pio, assured government of their commitment to supporting the mediation process to achieve lasting peace. He also appealed to government to revive the Pwalugu Tomato Factory to create employment opportunities for the youth and reduce rural-urban migration.

He reaffirmed government’s respect for chieftaincy administration, stating that governance would continue to be guided by the 1992 Constitution while recognising traditional authorities as key partners in governance, peacebuilding, and local development.
