32 communities in Bunkpurugu-Nakpanduri District gain access to water supply

Thirty-two communities now have access to a regular water supply in a significant development for the Bunkpurugu-Nakpanduri District of the Region, thanks to the construction of boreholes in the area. This initiative, spearheaded by the Northern Development Authority (NDA), aims to enhance residents' access to water for domestic activities while promoting improved sanitation and hygiene practices to prevent disease outbreaks.

The beneficiary communities, including Tojin Dauk, Tojin Dickson Kuan, Pagnatiik, Bamong, Nanyiar, Kauk Jagouk, Nabauk, Jabdawuur, Chintilung No2, Kpentaung, Nakpeuk, Najong No1, Nasiabok, and Konmoung Gberuk, among others, now have access to clean water sources.

Mr. Sulley Sambian, CEO of NDA, personally visited the communities to inaugurate the boreholes for use by residents. He emphasized the critical importance of water access, stating, “Water remains a critical need of the people.” Mr Sambian highlighted the NDA's commitment to drilling more boreholes in other communities to ensure continued access to water.

Upon assuming office, Mr. Sambian initiated efforts to secure government approval to drill boreholes in various communities. Approval was granted to procure 120 boreholes for all five regions in the north, resulting in the drilling of 32 boreholes in Bunkpurugu alone. Similar efforts are underway in other districts, including Chereponi, Yunyoo, Gambaga, and Walewale.

Mr. Joseph Louknaan, District Chief Executive for Bunkpurugu-Nakpanduri, expressed gratitude to the NDA for addressing one of the critical needs of the people. He appealed for more water projects, including solar-powered mechanized boreholes, and urged other development partners to join efforts to improve sanitation and hygiene practices in the area, ultimately eradicating diseases.
