The Minister for Government Communications, Mr Felix Kwakye Ofosu, has cautioned against calls to dismiss Black Stars Coach Otto Addo, describing such a move as “unfortunate and a tragic mistake.”
He argued that replacing the coach who successfully led Ghana to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup would be unwise, given the limited preparation time ahead of the tournament.

Mr Kwakye Ofosu made the remarks during Friday’s parliamentary sitting, while contributing to a statement read by Mr Ernest Henry Norgbey, Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Sports.
Echoing the Ghana Football Association (GFA) President Kurt Okraku’s position, the Minister emphasised the need for stability and confidence in the technical team as Ghana prepares for the global competition.
However, he proposed that foreign-born players of Ghanaian descent be considered to strengthen weak areas of the squad, a suggestion that was strongly opposed by Mr Edem Agbana, MP for Ketu North.
Mr Agbana argued that only players who demonstrated commitment during the qualifiers should be rewarded with selection for the World Cup, stressing that those who hesitated to represent Ghana should not be prioritised.
He expressed confidence that the current squad, if adequately resourced and motivated, could make the nation proud on the world stage.
MPs from both sides of the House joined in commending the Black Stars for their discipline, teamwork, and patriotic spirit, calling the qualification “a proud moment for national unity.”
Several lawmakers also called for greater investment in sports infrastructure and youth development, viewing the team’s success as a springboard for wider sports advancement.
“This is a time to come together as one person, one nation, behind one team,” one MP declared.
Parliament reaffirmed its full support for the Ghana Football Association (GFA) and the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, while urging corporate Ghana to boost sponsorship and logistical support for the Black Stars’ World Cup campaign.
