Asante Kotoko has announced that it will not resume participation in the Ghana Premier League (GPL) until the Ghana Football Association (GFA) implements new security measures to address hooliganism at match venues.

The club’s Interim Management Committee (IMC) made this declaration following the recent stabbing of a well-known Kotoko supporter, “Nana Pooley.”

Kotoko and rival club Hearts of Oak jointly submitted a proposal to the GFA on Monday, February 10, outlining their security concerns and demanding stricter measures to protect fans and officials.

During a meeting with the GFA, Nana Apinkrah, a Kotoko official, expressed dissatisfaction with the FA’s handling of their concerns.

“We know we [Hearts and Kotoko] don’t matter to the GFA, but now, whether you like it or not, you will respect us. We will show you we are Kotoko and Hearts,” he stated.

He emphasized that the club would not return to league action until all their security-related requests were met.

The GFA has yet to issue an official response to the clubs’ demands.
