Speaker Bagbin calls for stronger parliamentary vigilance against corruption

The Speaker of Ghana’s Parliament and Chairman of the African Parliamentarians’ Network Against Corruption (APNAC-Africa), Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has called for stricter parliamentary vigilance in the fight against corruption across Africa.

Speaking at the opening of the Second Meeting of the Board of APNAC-Africa in Kigali, he said the Network had adopted a renewed vision aimed at building a stronger, more visible, united and impactful parliamentary movement against corruption on the continent.

According to him, APNAC-Africa is being repositioned as a leading parliamentary platform for promoting integrity, accountability, transparency and democratic governance, while strengthening solidarity and peer support among African parliamentarians.

The Speaker urged members to remain candid but conciliatory in their engagements, stressing the importance of constructive criticism and a shared commitment to combating corruption across Africa.

He also encouraged participants to approach discussions with openness and determination to help transform APNAC-Africa into a responsive and influential institution capable of supporting national chapters, strengthening parliamentary oversight and influencing governance reforms across the continent.

Mr Bagbin further appealed to Board Members and the wider membership to work together with renewed commitment toward transparent and accountable governance.

He highlighted the upcoming African Anti-Corruption Day on July 11 as an opportunity for the Network to demonstrate unity and relevance through advocacy, public engagement, youth outreach and parliamentary action.
