New AfDB country manager reaffirms support for Mahama's Big Push

The Minister for Foreign Affairs, Honourable Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, has reaffirmed Ghana’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with the African Development Bank (AfDB) following the presentation of Letters of Credence by the Bank’s new Country Manager, Ms Halima Yussuf Hashi.

The meeting took place on Wednesday, April 15, 2026, where the Minister welcomed Ms Hashi and congratulated her on her appointment. He highlighted the AfDB’s critical role in supporting Ghana’s development agenda and reiterated Ghana’s advocacy for African-led reforms, particularly in debt restructuring, financial independence, and broader changes within global financial systems.

Ms Hashi expressed appreciation for the reception and underscored the Bank’s readiness to deepen cooperation with Ghana. She reaffirmed AfDB’s continued support in priority areas, including the government’s “Big Push” initiative and key infrastructure development aimed at promoting sustainable economic growth.

Both sides expressed optimism that enhanced collaboration would deliver tangible benefits for Ghana’s development.
