At the United Nations Headquarters, Mahama is expected to convene and deliver the keynote address at a High-Level Special Event on Reparatory Justice.

The event will bring together global leaders and key stakeholders under the theme focused on addressing the injustices of the trafficking and enslavement of Africans.

On Wednesday, the President will also address the United Nations General Assembly during the International Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Slavery and the Transatlantic Slave Trade.

He is expected to present Ghana’s position, backed by the African Union,on a landmark resolution seeking to declare the transatlantic slave trade as the gravest crime against humanity.

The visit will begin with a solemn wreath-laying ceremony at the African Burial Ground National Monument in honour of enslaved Africans.

Beyond UN engagements, President Mahama will travel to Pennsylvania, where he is scheduled to deliver a keynote address at Lincoln University and interact with the Ghanaian community at Temple University.

The visit underscores Ghana’s leadership role in the global push for reparatory justice and its commitment to preserving historical truth while advocating for accountability and healing.
