President John Dramani Mahama has expressed deep sorrow over the death of His Royal Majesty Ya-Na Abukari II, describing it as a great loss to Dagbon and Ghana.
Receiving the Dagbon Traditional Council at the Presidency to formally announce the passing of the Overlord of Dagbon, President Mahama extended his condolences to the Royal Family, the chiefs and people of Dagbon, and all Ghanaians mourning the respected traditional leader.

The President recalled his long-standing relationship with Ya-Na Abukari II, describing the late King as a father figure and paying tribute to his role in restoring peace, promoting reconciliation, strengthening traditional governance and fostering unity and stability in Dagbon.
President Mahama also described Ya-Na Abukari II as a national statesman and peacemaker whose humility and dedication to Ghana’s unity earned him widespread respect, and assured the Dagbon Traditional Council of government support and state honours as preparations for the final funeral rites begin.
