Accra, Oct. 21, GNA. The Majority Leader and Leader of Government Business in Parliament, Mr Mahama Ayariga, has assured Ghanaians that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) government will not treat its executive arm with leniency, emphasising that performance and delivery of promises made in the party’s manifesto will be closely monitored.
Speaking at the opening of the Third Meeting of the First Session of the Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic, Mr Ayariga said the NDC would adopt a bipartisan approach but would not hesitate to offer criticism when necessary. “The NDC will hold the executive arm of government accountable for the delivery of its promises,” he stated on the floor of Parliament.

The Bawku Central legislator highlighted progress made by the government so far, noting stabilisation of the economy, improved access to healthcare, and the ongoing expansion of infrastructure projects. He repeatedly described the government’s achievements as “so far, so excellent,” explaining that Ghana’s economy is rebounding and gaining respectability on the global stage.
Mr Ayariga also cited significant developments under key social initiatives, noting that the National Health Insurance Scheme (NHIS) is on track to reach 20 million active members, with claims payments up to date. He added that the Free Senior High School programme is well-funded and functioning efficiently, while the Big Push in road infrastructure continues on course.
Touching on employment, particularly for the youth, the Majority Leader announced plans for a special parliamentary hearing on the extractive industries to explore potential avenues for job creation.
Regarding the legislative agenda for the upcoming meeting, Mr Ayariga outlined that Parliament will consider several bills and regulations, including the National Health Insurance Regulations, the Ghana Medical Trust Fund Regulations, and the Road Traffic (Amendment) Bill.
Parliament reconvened on Tuesday, October 21, 2025, for the Third Meeting of the First Session of the Ninth Parliament after it was adjourned sine die on Friday, August 1, 2025.
Mr Ayariga’s address underscores the NDC majority’s commitment to accountability, delivery of manifesto promises, and a balanced approach to governance, highlighting a clear focus on economic stability, social services, and legislative oversight.
