Ken Ofori-Atta will cooperate with corruption probe – Minority Leader assures Special Prosecutor

Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin has assured the Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, that former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta will make himself available for investigations into alleged corruption.

Ofori-Atta, who has been in the U.S. for medical treatment since early 2025, was officially named a suspect by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) on February 12. He is being investigated in connection with four high-profile corruption cases, including the National Cathedral project and Strategic Mobilization Limited (SML). The OSP also alleged that the recent raid on his residence was staged.

Following these developments, the Special Prosecutor declared Ofori-Atta a wanted person, urging his immediate return for questioning. He warned that legal measures could be taken to compel his return if he failed to cooperate.

However, addressing Parliament on Thursday, February 13, Afenyo-Markin stated that he had personally spoken with Ofori-Atta, who expressed distress over being labelled a fugitive.

“He is traumatized by the way he has been described, but he remains steadfast. He is currently undergoing medical procedures. Within a reasonable time, I am sure he will return,” Afenyo-Markin said.

The Minority Leader further assured the OSP of Ofori-Atta’s willingness to cooperate.

“I will engage the Special Prosecutor constructively and assure him that if there was any miscommunication, I, as the Minority Leader, can confirm that he will make himself available. He left the country with permission, and he will return to respond to any investigations,” he added.
