A heated altercation at Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Awka, turned chaotic after a female student attacked and bit a lecturer, Dr Chukwudi Michael, following a disagreement over a dance video.

The incident, which took place at the Faculty of Arts, reportedly began when the lecturer attempted to pass by the student while she was being filmed dancing in a corridor. According to eyewitnesses, Dr. Michael tapped her shoulder and said, “Excuse me,” as he walked past. However, the student reacted angrily, claiming she had been hit.

The situation quickly escalated, with the student grabbing the lecturer’s clothes aggressively as onlookers attempted to intervene. A viral video circulating on social media captures the student confronting the lecturer, who appeared to be trying to de-escalate the situation.

Confirming the incident, the university’s Chief Security Officer, Ken Chukwurah, stated that an internal investigation is underway.

“Yes, there was an incident like that. Investigations are ongoing, and the school will make its position known once we conclude our findings,” Chukwurah said.

According to reports, Dr Michael suspected the student was recording a TikTok video and did not want to appear in it. When he requested that the video be deleted, she allegedly bit him on both arms. Images circulating online show visible bite marks on the lecturer’s arms.

Further sources indicate that the student is a 300-level History and International Studies student and the daughter of a lecturer in the university’s Engineering Department.
