Ghana and South Korea sign a visa waiver agreement for diplomatic and service passport holders

Ghana and South Korea have signed a Visa Waiver Agreement that will allow holders of Diplomatic and Service Passports from both countries to travel without visas.

The agreement was signed by Ghana’s Foreign Affairs Minister, Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, and South Korea‘s Foreign Minister, Cho Hyun, on the sidelines of the ongoing Africa-Korea Foreign Ministers Meeting.

According to Hon. Ablakwa, the agreement is the first visa-waiver arrangement between Ghana and South Korea in nearly 50 years of formal diplomatic relations.

He said negotiations would continue with the aim of extending the visa waiver arrangement to holders of ordinary passports in the future.

The Foreign Affairs Minister expressed confidence that the agreement would strengthen cooperation, promote official exchanges and deepen bilateral relations between the two countries.

Hon. Ablakwa added that the agreement forms part of the commitments being implemented following John Dramani Mahama‘s working visit to South Korea in March 2026.

The visa waiver agreement is expected to facilitate travel for government officials and enhance diplomatic engagement as Ghana and South Korea expand cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
